Clir’s detector helps to
validate icing upgrade.

A U.S. wind farm wanted to understand the impact of an icing upgrade on turbine behaviour during icing events. Clir validated the upgrade by quantifying losses due to icing events, which led to:

  • A complete understanding of lost energy due to icing.

  • 2,264 MWh of lost energy identified through status codes and Clir’s potential energy models.

  • Additional detection of 256 MWh using Clir’s icing detectors.

  • A 66 per cent reduction in icing losses at the turbines used during the trial period.
